I have an 89 plymouth reliant K car Am replacing the A.C.It doesnt have an orifice tube so what does it have?

My friend sais it has an expansion valve that does the same job as the orifice tube? Expansion block? So where is it located? What does it look like? I know I need to get a service manual!
